Your first course in 15 minutes

From an empty course to students working through gates. Fifteen minutes of your time; the pipeline does the rest in the background.

What you need before you start

A teacher account, and a syllabus as a PDF, DOCX or text you can paste. Topics, subtopics and learning objectives produce the best extraction — a bare list of chapter titles gives the pipeline very little to work with.

1 · Create the course

    Open My Courses and choose New Course

    From the faculty sidebar.

    Fill in the basics

    Name, code, subject, class or section, term. These are the identity of the course and appear on every report it produces.

    Set the shape of the course

    Number of lessons and lesson duration. Extraction uses these to decide how finely to divide the syllabus — get them roughly right and the gate sizing will be sensible.

The course is created in draft. Nothing is visible to students yet.

2 · Upload the syllabus

Open the draft course and choose Upload Syllabus. Attach a PDF or DOCX, or paste the text directly. Scanned, image-only documents are run through OCR first and flagged where page quality is poor.

Garbage in stays garbage in

Extraction is grounded — it will not invent a curriculum you did not supply. A syllabus with only chapter headings yields gates with only chapter headings. If your document has learning outcomes, include them.

3 · Let extraction run

Processing takes a few minutes and runs as a background job, so you can leave the screen. The progress view is staged rather than a spinner: you can see which phase is running and, if something fails, which one failed.

  • The document is parsed and, where necessary, OCR-ed.
  • Strands and learning outcomes are extracted.
  • Gates are proposed, sequenced, and given prerequisites and Bloom targets.
  • The schedule is allocated across weeks.

4 · Review and correct

This is the step that matters. Everything downstream inherits what you approve here.

Review Extracted opens on five tabs — details, strands, outcomes, assessments and schedule — all of them editable inline. Fix names, merge duplicates, reorder gates, adjust the schedule.

Edits cascade. Renaming a strand or reordering gates updates the dependent learning outcomes, lesson plans and quiz groups in one pass, and you see a preview of what will change before you commit.

Spend your fifteen minutes here rather than anywhere else. Correcting a gate sequence now is a two-minute edit; correcting it after materials and quizzes have been generated means regenerating them.

5 · Approve and generate

Approving the extraction queues the generation jobs: lesson plans, four-stage Socratic scripts, question banks and study materials, per gate. This runs in the background and takes longer than extraction — a full course is typically around a quarter of an hour. You can watch it from the course page, and jobs resume rather than restart if a worker is replaced mid-run.

6 · Publish and teach

    Skim the generated content

    Lesson plans and scripts are a first draft. Read one gate’s worth before publishing to check tone and depth suit your cohort.

    Publish materials to students

    Materials are draft until published. Publishing is per item or in bulk per lesson.

    Confirm students are enrolled

    Either your admin linked a section to the course, or you add students directly from the course’s Students page.

    Teach from the lesson workspace

    The plan and the script for each session, with attendance and recording alongside.

The course is now active. Students see the first gate; the rest unlock as they clear prerequisites.

What to do next

  • Schedule your first assessment from the course’s quiz groups.
  • Check class analytics after that first assessment — the mastery heatmap is only meaningful once there are attempts in it.
  • Leave remediation alone; it triggers itself when a student falls below the threshold.
