Timetable & conflict resolution

Generating a schedule from sections and availability, then resolving what it flags.

What it needs first

  • Sections, with their students.
  • Courses, linked to those sections.
  • Teachers, assigned to those courses.
  • Teacher availability and room constraints.

Generating

Generation produces slots — lecture, lab, tutorial or extra class — across the week, then flags what it could not satisfy. It does not silently produce a broken timetable: a conflict it cannot resolve is surfaced for you to decide.

Resolving conflicts

Teacher double-bookedTwo sections sharing a teacher in the same slot. Detected across sections, not just within one.
Section double-bookedOne cohort scheduled in two places at once.
Room clashTwo slots in one room.
Availability breachA slot outside the teacher’s declared availability.

Conflicts are resolved one at a time so you can see the effect of each decision rather than regenerating the whole week and hoping.

Editing after generation

Slots can be moved by hand afterwards. Rescheduling a lesson carries its attendance record with it, so a moved session does not orphan the register.
