Gmail

Available

Send grade reports, parent notifications and a weekly digest from your own registered institutional address. Connected per user, not per institution.

What this integration does

  • Sends grade reports to students and parents from your own institutional address, so replies come back to you.

  • Sends a parent notification when a report is published.

  • Sends a weekly digest summarising the sections you teach.

What moves, and which way

What you need before you start

  • A LEAP account whose email address is your institutional Google address.

  • Google sign-in permitted for your institution's domain.

  • Nothing for an administrator to enable — this is a per-user connection.

Turning it on

Who can do this: any signed-in user, for their own address. There is no admin step, and an administrator cannot do it on someone’s behalf.

  1. 1
    Open Settings → Integrations

Any signed-in user can reach this. There is no admin step.

  2. 2
Choose Connect on the Gmail card

Google's consent screen opens in a new window.

  3. 3
Pick the Google account that matches your LEAP address

LEAP compares the two. A different mailbox is rejected — you cannot connect an arbitrary address.

  4. 4
    Grant send permission

LEAP asks only to send mail. It never reads your mailbox.

  5. 5
Turn on the notifications you want

All three toggles start off. Nothing is sent until you turn one on.

Settings reference

connectedAddressType: string, read-onlyDefault: your account emailTaken from your LEAP account. Cannot be edited; a mismatch fails the connection.
gradeReportsType: booleanDefault: falseSends a report to the student and, where present, the parent address on the student record.
parentNotificationsType: booleanDefault: falseNotifies parents when a report card or assessment result is published.
weeklyDigestType: booleanDefault: falseSends a Monday summary of each section you teach: coverage, submissions, flagged students.

Limits and known behaviour

  • Connection state is held per user in the browser, not centrally. Connecting on your laptop does not connect your phone.

  • An administrator cannot enable Gmail institution-wide yet. Every user connects their own address.

  • Mail is sent from your own mailbox, so it appears in your Sent folder and counts against Google's sending limits.

  • The connected address cannot differ from the address on your LEAP account.

Troubleshooting

Connect opens a window and nothing happens.

A popup blocker closed the consent window before it finished. Allow popups for LEAP and try again.

"Address does not match your account" on connect.

You chose a different Google account than the one on your LEAP profile. Sign out of Google, or use the account picker to choose the matching address. If your institutional address changed, an admin has to update it on your LEAP account first.

Connected on my laptop, not connected on my phone.

Expected — see Limits. Connect once per browser.

A parent did not receive a report.

Check the parent address on the student record in Admin → Students. LEAP sends only to addresses held there, and a bounce is not surfaced back into LEAP yet.
